Building a masculine scene with simple masking. April Hedgehog Hollow Box

 Hi there! I would like to show you how I built this scene featuring the stamps from the April Hedgehog Hollow Box using a simple masking technique. I just love the look of the sunny clouds behind the mountains. Below I have a quick video to accompany this post to show you my process. 

 

First, I stamped the mountain image in the middle of my Ultra White cardstock. Then, I stamped out three masks of the mountains on Gina K. Masking Sheets to build the mountain range. There is no need for the image to be perfectly stamped for this step, just dark enough so you can fussy cut the image on the line. Next, I took one of the masks, removed the back, and then put it over the mountain stamped on the cardstock. Be careful to position it as exact as possible because you will get gaps between the image you stamp over the mask if not placed properly. Then, I stamped and masked off the mountains on both sides of the original masked mountain. 

 

I started stenciling the clouds using the Varada Sharma Slimline Cloud Stencil and Scattered Straw distress ink. I continued stenciling the clouds using Spice Marmalade and Barn Door distress ink. Then, I carefully removed the masks from my mountains after I finished stenciling the clouds. Then, I used my Copic markers {W00, W0, W1, W2, W4} to add some color to the mountains. Next, I stamped the boat silhouette image using my Misti and remarkable Eclipse Black Ink. Then I used a post it note to mask off the scene on the card so I could blend Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire distress ink under the boat for water. I sprayed it lightly with water, dabbed it off and removed the post it note. Then, I used a die from my stash to give the panel a little design around the edge. 

 

I stamped the sentiment, trimmed each line of the sentiment so I could arrange it over the scene and glued it down. Finally, I glued that panel to a piece of Eclipse Black cardstock, and then to a card base. I just love how this card turned out. Masculine cards can be hard for me to come up with ideas for. However, this month's box is all you need because the stamps and stencils all coordinate so nicely with each other.
