Using an Ice Cream Stencil to Make a Cupcake Background! {Hedgehog Hollow}

 Hello crafty friends! Kimberly here with the new Hedgehog Hollow subscription box “Sweet Treats”. I am going to show you how to use the ice cream layering stencil to make a cupcake background!

To start this background, I had to mask the cone stencil. I used Purple tape to mask the sugar cones and wash tape to mask half of each wafer cone because these will be my cupcake wrappers. 

I began blending my distress oxides through the stencil using my favorite rainbow color combination. The colors used are Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon and Seedless Preserves. 

Once I finished with the first three rows, my plan was to blend all of the ice cream scoops (or in this case cupcake tops) at once. I figured that I could just flip the cone stencil over and finish off with the last of the wrappers. However, since that part of the stencil was meant to line up with the sugar cones, it was not as easy to line up the wafer cones. It worked, but it is not lined up perfectly. Next time, I will center the wafer cones between the three rows I blended and finish the last there rows by lining up the ice cream scoops with them. I used Ground Espresso distress ink to blend the cupcake tops.

Once I finished all of the blending, I stamped the cupcake from the “You Bake Me Happy” stamp set on watercolor paper using Eclipse Black ink. I love this ink because, once it is dry, you can use it for markers or watercoloring. Next, I fussy cut them out and watercolored them with Picked Raspberry, Twisted Citron and Frayed Burlap distress oxides. 

Next, I heat embossed the sentiment from the “Sweet Sentiments” stamp set on Eclipse Black cardstock. Then, I assembled the card. I added foam tape to the cupcake background panel and popped it up on a 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card base I cut and scored at 4 1/4″ from Tiptree Jam cardstock. Then, I glued the sentiment and the green cupcake to the card panel. I added foam tape to the pink cupcake and popped it up on the card panel. 

With this next card that I am sharing, I will show you how I used the ice cream stencil on a slimline card base. I began by ink blending the center circle of the slimline spotlight stencil that comes in the box with Antique Linen distress oxide. 

Next, I stamped the “Life happens Chocolate Helps” sentiment over it using Eclipse Black ink.

I masked off the sentiment using Gina K. masking sheets that I cut out with a circle die to match the size of the image. Then, I began ink blending the cones on the stencil.

I moved the stencil down and matched up a few of the cones to keep it even. Then blended Antique Linen Distress Oxide with a little Frayed Burlap distress oxide over it.

Next, I blended the ice cream tops.

I used Ground Espresso for the chocolate tops. To finish the card, I removed the mask over the sentiment and adhered it to a Tip Tree Jam card base that I cut to 8 1/2 x 7″ and scored at 3 1/2″.
